A pain in the neck

I must have slept funny last night or something, because all day today I’ve been unable to turn my neck to the left. Luckily, at work, the only thing that’s on that side of me is the door and I tend not to get that many visitors… unless someone needs help understanding an English text, but with three people away on holiday and one working from home there wasn’t really anyone around to need such help. I’m still not sure how I made it through the day though. I suppose I shouldn’t really be on the computer right now… it can’t be helping matters. But as the job I’m slightly behind qith the job I’m currently working on, meaning the time that’s required to finish it is actually longer than the time I have left before my holiday I need to put in some extra hours from home to make sure it gets done. So I’ll be working on that for about half an hour before retiring to my bed to moan feebly and try not to move at all. He doesn’t know it yet, but Jan will have to cook tea tonight!
Coincidentally, Katyboo has just returned to blogging after being forced to take some time out due to a sore neck. Could it be that ailments mentioned on blogs are contagious? Quick readers, back away and pretend you haven’t read this! I wouldn’t want you to be next…

Introducing Clive, the sofa skunk

I mentioned ages ago that Jan had bought me a stuffed skunk who was now living on my sofa. I named him Clive… a great name for a skunk, no? I believe it was Stephanie from Please, Stop Bouncing (which I just misspelled as please stop pouncing!) who requested photos of him. And now, slightly belatedly, here they are.

How cute is that little face? And just look at that soft, strokeable tail!

Clive rocks! :-)

Home alone

As I briefly mentioned in my last post (that would be the one that a grand total of two people read. Just sayin’…), Jan is away this weekend with his choir. So on  Friday I spent the night alone in the flat for the first time. I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to get an early night for a change. Yes, on a Friday of all days. I have to be on a train at 8am on Saturdays to go to my typing course (only one more to go though!) and I thought I could turn up feeling refreshed for once.  So by 10pm I was in bed, with my book. At 10:30 I put the book down, turned out the light and snuggled down to sleep. It didn’t work too well. Every time I heard a noise my eyes flew open. Was that creaking floorboard in the flat above or coming from the next room? Did I just hear a door open? What was that noise? I have no idea what was wrong with me. Usually I don’t even notice those noises. And after years of spending nights if not all alone then with only my little brother (3 years old at the time) for company  in various places, falling asleep in an empty house (or flat in this case) has never bothered me before. Obviously I’m turing into a scaredy cat in my old age…
Thankfully I did manage to sleep last night. At least after I’d spent half an hour chasing a bluebottle around the room because hearing it buzz past my ear every two minutes was unbelievably annoying. Couldn’t whoever invented bluebottle at least have made them silent?! Aargh!

Blogging fail

I know I promised to blog more after I received my prolific blogger award, and I’ve been meaning to post for nearly two weeks, but as you can tell I’ve failed utterly miserably. I just don’t have time to blog. Between all the overtime I’ve been doing lately (so many big jobs, so little time), the course I’m doing on Saturday mornings (10 finger typing course, bot interesting enough to write about) and all the usual cooking, attempting to spend time with my boyfriend and occasionally actually cleaning the flat, my poor blog just hasn’t had a chance. Sigh.

Soo, I’ve just found out a girl I used to be pretty good friends with, and whose family are friends of my family, is pregnant. Another one to add to the list. Currently I only know three people who are expecting, the fewest it’s been for a while. And another friend got married last week (an ex-boyfriend as it happens), which necessiated the sending of a gift to England. All these babies and weddings are going to bankrupt me! Baby clothes are so cute though, and it’s not like I’m going to be able to buy any for a child of my own for a while… or possibly ever, so there is a silver lining I suppose.

I had a meeting at work today. The bosses are happy with my work, I was expressly thanked for putting in overtime last week and I got a positive response from a customer the other day (usually we only get feedback when someone wants to complain, so it was a nice surprise). So all is good on the unemployment front. And in 23 days I’m off on my holidays. Good times :-) The only cloud on the horizon is that Jan is away this weekend with his choir, and I’ve barely seen him all week as it is. It’s only a small cloud though, and we’ll have plenty of time to make up for it once our holidays start. The countdown starts now…

It’s a good job I was wearing a long skirt…

I arrived home from work today and immediately had to go and sponge down my entire body with cold water. I was seriously that hot! First my train was delayed, then they sent a replacement IC (Inter City) instead of my usual ICE (the express train). For some reasone ICs are always really old, have hardly any seats and, in this particular one, no air conditioning. In a stupidly full train on a day where it’s 33°C outside. Well done Deutsche Bahn. The window was open, but apart from blowing hot air around the carriage (it was a bit like a hair dryer, but less noisy) all it did was practically pull my hair out of its roots. That and cause my ears to feel like they were going to explode when we went through the tunnel. And while the top half of my body was being buffeted by warm wind, I could actually feel sweat trickling down my legs. I told you it was a good job I was wearing a long skirt!

Apparantly it’s going to be 38 degrees tomorrow. If you haven’t heard from me by Monday I’ve probably melted into a puddle somehwere and been evaporated by the sun…
