The last of the Quality Street have been eaten, making way for healthy eating to resume, I’ve just taken down my Christmas decorations and tomorrow I’m back at work. Now it’s time for my New Year’s resolutions to begin in earnest. My days of sleeping late, lounging around watching DVDs and not seeming to do much of anything while still surprisingly getting a few things done are over for another year. Sure, there will be weekends, but from now on they will be used to try and cram in everything that I didn’t have time for during the week.
In theory, if I work for 8 hours and sleep for 8 hours, I still have a whole 8 hours of me time every single day. Once you take away the time spent getting ready for work, travelling there and back and the half an hour for my lunch break, the reality is a grand total of four hours. That’s four hours into which I have to cram shopping, doing my exercise DVD, cooking tea, eating tea, housework, blogging and reading other people’s blogs (admittedly I do some of that on my lunch break because I can at least get all the blogs I read to load on the work computer!) and anything else I want to do with my evenings.

Work-life balance? Does not exist, in my opinion!
exactly how I feel! By the time I actually get to breathe at night, usually I am too tired to even want to do ‘me’ things. Don’t ya hate it?! haha
YES! Some nights the thought of cooking actual food makes me want to cry from sheer exhaustion!
don’t you just hate that!?! haha
I believe the Germans are particularly bad at finding that balance.
I believe you may be right!
You will just have to give up work – I can see no other solution! π
Oh yes, and make my boyfriend get a pay rise so I can still afford to travel π
Naturally. π
I think Pink Parliament says this best – even if I find the time in the evenings, I’m always too tired to want to! But, like you I’m determined to make the weekends count! Here’s to it! (And at least you’ve got rid of your chocolate ready to eat healthy, I still have shelves of the stuff looking at me!)
Same here – after a full day at work I’m too tired to want to do anything! I only manage to force myself to cook proper meals by not having any ready meals in. That way it’s either cook or go hungry π
The Quality Street are gone, but I still have a bar of Galaxy that I’m keeping for emergencies. Haha!
Did you get my letter by the way?
Nothing yet, but there’s still been lots of bank holidays here for Reyes (epiphany, three kings) this week, so now that’s finished hopefully it’ll get here π How exciting to have something to look forward to in the worst month of the year!!
Ya know what ya mean – work definitely consumes more than just the “8 hrs” you’re supposed to be there. And especially with how early things close, it’s hard to get things done and by the time I run errands on the way home i tseems there’s no time left.
I know what you mean! I’m so glad the supermarket round the corner from me is open til 10 or I’d never have time to buy any food!
Wow I never saw it that way. We do actually have 8 hours a day where we aren’t sleeping or working. Where the hell does it go?! I finished work at 4.50 yesterday but did not get home until 6.30. That’s a whole chuck of my time wasted just driving home! Then I needed to vac, cook dinner, do dishes and iron clothes for today. I then watched a 30 minute TV show and hit the sack. Bummer. Work is the problem – we need to get rich and quit working!
Exactly – where the hell does it go?? It’s hard to believe the amount of time I’m NOT at work is equivalent to a working day! Yeah, let’s get rich π
