For today’s look up, look down entry, I’m using an old photo that was taken right here in Karlsruhe. It shows the tower of the Vierordtbad swim baths at sunset.
The “tower” is actually a chimney, and all that remains of the former thermal power station, which provided heat for both the Vierordtbad and the neighbouring Tullabad. The rest was torn down in 1989 when the Gartenhalle was built – that green roof that you can see in front of the tower on this photo is the Gartenhalle, which is part of the congress centre. Here’s another photo of the chimney/tower taken on a different day and from a different perspective:

Thanks for sharing this gem on the Look Up Look Down challenge. It’s great to find these little leftover relics. Funnily, I featured an old baths chimney in Margate a while back, very different style, but still a beautiful reminder of things past. Hope to see you again next week! Debbie
I love this tower because it’s so un-German… I feel like it should be in Italy or something!
The tower is pretty cool but that pink sky is absolutely gorgeous!
The sky was the main reason I took that photo. I see the tower all the time, but it looked extra special with the sunset behind it.
Love the sky in that picture! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks. I love that sky too!
This is seriously in KA?!
Haha, yes. But don’t worry, I had no idea it was there for years either. It’s near where I live.
Check the photos you took from the castle tower… the ones looking South. You should just be able to make it out in the background.
