Hello friends! I have something a little bit different for you today. I was encouraged by Kezzie to take part in a link up called Style Imitating Art. The idea is that one of the hosts (I believe there are several) picks a piece of art and the participants then have to put together an outfit based on it. And now you are going to find out exactly why I don’t do outfit posts…
The piece of art to be imitated was a Japanese Nabashemi ware dish, blue with a pretty floral pattern.
As soon as I saw it I knew I had the perfect top… pale blue with flowers. And I was already wearing a slightly darker blue skirt that would provide a nod to the darker blue lines going across the plate. So, outfit found, the more difficult challenge was to get a photo of me wearing it. Being home alone and not having a tripod, a series of attempts to prop my camera up and get into position before the time ran out ensured. First, I tried to take the photo on my balcony… but apparently it was too sunny out there. Nothing I could do could prevent the top half of me from being brightly lit while the rest of me was in shadow. So into the flat I went. My next attempt, with me standing at the far end of the corridor, failed as the camera utterly refused to focus. So in the end I resorted to standing by the front door. Here’s the photo I eventually submitted:
I’m still not sure I’m properly in focus and I am well aware that my feet are missing, but this was something like the 15th photo I took and at that point I gave up!
Anyway, ignoring my terrible photography skills, I think the outfit itself works quite well.
To see more style imitating art, check out Salazar‘s blog. I’m afraid it’s too late to join in now but perhaps you can another time. And for now you can tell me in the comments what you would wear if you were to let this bowl inspire your outfit.
I think you have done really well. The top is the perfect replica of the dish. X
Thank you x
That works! The Japanese dish is lovely, and you replicated it quite well.
Thanks.
Woah! You hit the nail on the head!!!
Thank you dear.
That’s a lovely outfit 🙂 I wouldn’t have been able to replicate the dish in clothes myself, but, pesky cameras aside, you seem to have managed it easily 🙂
Thank you. I really like the top 🙂
That top is perfect for the challenge! It is very pretty too. 🙂
Thanks lovely. I’ve actually had the top for about 15 years!
Really? It looks very new and stylish.
A great interpretation of the dish. I had to chuckle at your description of trying to get the picture…. That’s about how it works for me too. With slipping glasses because of the sweat. LOL
LOL, I’m glad I’m not the only one.
I’m so glad you joined in the SIA fun! I’m one of the co-hosts, and our next challenge goes live this next Monday. I think you totally nailed this challenge — that top is lovely! 😀
Thank you. I’m looking forward to it.
I am so happy that you joined in, !!! Haha, the annoyances of outfit photos! Oh, so many times I’ve gone mad with the sunlight, unexpected blurring and cutting of limbs! I used to use a stepladder before I had a tripod. Your outfit is perfect!! That top is the perfect combination to match the plate as well as the navy skirt!
I thought about using a ladder but I would have had to move the ironing board to get to it!
