Nearly there…

We went to view a very nice flat yesterday. Three rooms, close to the train station (only 2 tram stops away), gorgeous wooden floors, and a brand new kitchen just about to be installed.
Today, the man called Jan and offered to us. We had to make a decision by 8 p.m. After much umming and erring and working out of finances, followed by a phone call to Jan’s mum for advice, we decided to take it. We have a meeting at the house tomorrow morning, where we shall be given the contract. Then we have the rest of the weekend to look over it and make sure everything’s satisfactory. If all is to our liking we’ll sign it then, on Monday, return it. And then the flat shall be ours. Finally the search is over! I think a bottle of sparkling wine shall have to be opened tonight…

Yessssssssssss!

I’ve done it!!

Today I had my probation period meting at work.
From tomorrow, I’ll be spending the rest of the week working on site at one of our customers. Tehn, on Monday, I shall return to my workplace, on 1st March, one day after the official end of my probation period.
I assume you’ve gathered by now that the meeting went well.
They want to keep me!
YESSSSSSSSS!

That was the weekend that was…

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my last blog post. We celebrated six years of being together by going for a meal at an Italian restaurant close to my flat. It’s fairly new and we hadn’t been there before, but every time I’ve walked past it was packed. As it was again on Friday night. We arrived at just before 8 o’clock and were told they did have a table for 2 free, but only until 9pm! We had a lovely meal, complete with wine and actually were finished by 9… not bad! Will definitely be going there again, but perhaps with a reservation next time? After the meal we came home and watched the Goonies on DVD. I bought it for myself the other day as a treat, because it was cheap, and Jan had never seen it! Slowly, slowly I am filling in the gaps in his education… I’ve already introduced him to Edward Scissorhands and The Breakfast Club… and now The Goonies. I wonder what other classics he’s missed out on?

Yesterday we drove over towards the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest) and went for a bit of a walk through the trees. There’s still deeo snow up there! Afterwards we drove into Landau, had a bit of a walk around then went to a wine tavern for something to eat. I had pike-perch fillet in a really nice sauce. And a glass of wine of course… what else should one drink in a wine tavern?
We had a lovely day, culminating in a talk about the possibility of actually getting a flat together… but more on that tomorrow, it’s such a mile stone that I think it deserves a whole blog post of it’s very own 🙂

Today I have mostly been working on my dissertation.. or at least attempting to. I have a grand total of 536 words so far, which I may or may not be able to use in the actual dissertation. *sigh* Can someone please remind me why I wanted to do a master’s?

Oh, and I’ve just heard (courtesy of my sister) that a friend of mine back in England has become a father today. He’s actually the son of a family friend and I’ve known hi since I was about 10 years old… rather strange thinking of him having a new born daughter! We are all growing up, alas…

So, that was my weekend. How was yours?

Now I can tell you my news…

I didn’t want to say anything before in case something went wrong, but now that it’s official I am free to shout it from the mountain tops if I wish.

You already know that I went for a trial day at a company on Thursday.
On Friday the boss called and told me they would like to offer me a job.
And today I went back there to sign the contract.

As of 1st September 2009 I shall once again be employed. I guess that means now I can take some time to relax without feeling guilty.

So I have a flat…

That’s the good news. I signed the contract on Saturday. No going back now.
The bad news is I have to pay the deposit on Thursday, when I go to pick up the key. This is bad because the deposit is 3 months rent, or in other words almost all of my wages. I could manage it though, just about, if I actually had my wages. Unfortunately they don’t go in until the beginning of next week. So I’m resorting to plan B, which involves taking the cash from my English bank account. Yes, that would be the bank account that is already in the minuses and which no longer comes with an interest free overdraft because it’s been too long since I graduated. Not exactly the ideal solution, but the only one I have. Unless some rich relative decides to die in the next 2 days and leave me lots of money. Preferably lots of money that I can have immediately. Hmm, maybe that idea is slightly unrealistic…

Decisions, decisions

Okay people, I have a dilemma on my hands. I have to make a decision. Not something I’m good at in the slightest…
You see, today I was offered a proper job at the place I work. The contract would be for one year, following which I would be offered an ope-ended contratc, provided I still want to stay. All sounds very good, yes. Then I arrived home to find an email from the company I applied for a position of trainee translator at before Christmas. Guess what? They want me to come for an interview. So, what do I do? I have decided I will at least go to the interview at the new place, but that means taking a day off work. Do I tell the boss where I’m going? Even though he’s made me a definite job offer? And if I’m then offered the other job what do I do, where do I go? Aargh… it’s making my head hurt already and I haven’t even had the interview yet!
It’s a good kind of dilemma though. Really I shouldn’t be complaining. Still a dilemma though, so if anyone has any advice please feel free to give me it…

More good news

It seems to be a week of good news on the jobs front. This morning somebody from Gernsbach called me. Apparantly she sent me something by post but it arrived back on her desk this morning with a stamp saying I don’t exist at that address. Very strange. I can assure you I do exist at my address – and she did have it right. She even read it out to me. Apparantly she had invited me to an interview tomorrow, but obviously I hadn’t got the letter, so we’ve rearranged it for next Thursday. It’s more than a week away and I’m nervous already! Wish me luck please.
