Hello there! It’s Friday again, and after today I only have one more week at work before the Christmas holidays. I’m very much looking forward to not having to get up at 6 a.m. for a couple of weeks! We’re visiting Jan’s parents for Christmas then for New Year… well, as of right now we’re doing nothing! Iceland is out because flights were too espensive. Bruges was on the table, but other than me looking up train prices and letting Jan know nothing has been done about it and by now it may be too late to even book somewhere to stay. So we may end up staying in Karlsruhe and having fireworks thrown at us all night. We’ll see… Anyway, Friday letters!
Dear final Christmas present. Please hurry up and arrive so I can finally finish wrapping stuff!
Dear post office. I think I’m only going to have to visit you one more time this year (unless I end up having . Yippee!
Dear Deutsche Post. I can’t believe stamp prices are going up again in January! I still have some left over from last year when it cost 58 cents to send a letter within Germany… now it’s going up from 60 to 62 cents. It isn’t even that long since said stamps only cost 55 cents! And as for putting the price of an international letter up from 75 to 80 cents… well, I don’t even know what to say to that!
Dear Speyer. We’re coming to visit your Christmas market tomorrow! 🙂
That’s all I can think of this week, so here are some links:
Another Friday, another chance to write letters to life, the universe and everything…
Dear spammer. Thank you for giving me a laugh this morning. “Your website is like anencyclopaedia for me, thanks“. That’s very nice, but I’m still not clicking on your casino link!
Dear post office. You have made a small fortune off me this week – and I’m not finished yet! Still three packages to be sent…
Dear Karlsruhe Christmas market. I haven’t been to you once yet (passing through doesn’t count). Something needs to be done about this very soon!
Dear new cousin. Welcome to the world, little baby girl! I hope I get to see you one day, even though you live in Australia.
Dear relatives. Only 10 days til Christmas! The chances of my packages reaching you in time are now slim. I hope you don’t mind opening New Year’s presents instead! (Actually, I know at least one person who will. Sorry Grandma!!)
And now I’m going into town. In the pouring rain. I need to get at least one of the aforementioned parcels sent (at the only post office that’s still open… and just happens to be halfway across town!) then try to get presents for the last few remaining people on my list. Right now, I’m just not feeling the Christmas spirit!
I don’t know how other people manage to hold down a full time job, fit in all the pastimes they enjoy as well as the things that have to be done (like housework and cooking of actual food – as opposed to toast) and still find the time to get a good night’s sleep. I know I certainly can’t! And, of course, it’s always sleep that falls by the wayside. I know that if I want a full eight hours of sleep I need to be asleep at 10, but my train doesn’t even get in to Karlsruhe til 6 p.m. (when it’s on time). That only leaves me with four hours! Yesterday I actuakky managed to make it to get some parcels out, after failing to do so on Monday because I ended up doing overtime and the post office was already shut by the time I got home. I then popped into a few shops, finally making it home for around 7:30 pm. After unpacking the shopping I sat down to finish a letter I had started writing to a penfriend nearly 2 weeks ago! (Yes, I am nearly 30 years old and still have penfriends. Judge all you like, I don’t care). I thought I could quickly get that done then start tea… well, I did get it finished, but quickly is something else. It was 8:30 pm by the time I started cooking and after 9 by the time we could cook. Which, of course, meant I wasn’t in bed til after 11 and have spent most of today feeling utterly exhausted again. Right now I’m at the point where I should make dinner but even the thought of walking to the kitchen feels like too much effort. I would just go to bed, but I have far too much to do. Things that I failed to do yesterday and the day before. So I’m determined to get something done tonight, even if it is just a load of washing (the wash basket is so full it’s practically overflowing). I just need to recover some of my energy first. Perhaps a cup of tea will help, if only I can bring myself to go all the way to the kitchen… It’s a good job we’ve got another holiday here tomorrow! Something to do with the body of Christ….
The shopping is put away, tea is just about ready… all I need now is for the boyfriend to arrive so we can eat. In the meantime, I shall blog.
Things have been much better since the last time I blogged, thank goodness. Another day like Monday may just have driven me insane! I am very much looking forward to the weekend though, when I shall hopefully be buying my washing machine. (Yes, I did just say I was looking forward to buying a washing machine. My life is really is that exciting). If I can find one that’s cheap enough I may even see if I can pursuade Jan to take me to IKEA. I’ve been looking at their website and several things have caught my eye. Like this, and this. Can you tell I got paid yesterday?
Things had started to warm up a bit here last week, but now it’s gone cold again. It was -8°C here this morning! I had to wait 5 minutes for my tram to turn up and even in that short time I could feel my cheeks turning to ice. I’m just glad I don’t live in the north of Germany… up there -9 has been the highest temperature, with lows in the minus twenties. Brrr, just thinking about it makes me shiver!
Hmm, what else can I tell you? It’s my Grandma’s birthday today. The last of the (many!) January birthdays in my family. I hope her card got there on time… I’m not holding my breath though. Royal Mail have been annoying me lately… two things I sent my sister have not yet arrived (one of them was a Christmas card so you can imagine how long it’s been since I posted that) and my friend’s wedding present has only just arrived, 3 weeks after I sent it for the second time! The first time it came back to me over a month after I took it to the post office. Not at all impressed! Oh, and I’ve also been invited to four hen parties today… all for the same person, and to a second one for someone who had already invited me to one of theirs. Is this he new thing now, having millions of hen nights? Any excuse for a party I suppose…
Right, I’m off to grate some cheese now. Hopefully Jan won’t take too much longer… lunch time was hours ago and my poor stomach is rumbling like mad!
