The bringer of tea and toast

We survived our day at Castle Frankenstein. I didn’t catch sight of any Igors and no evil scientists seemed to be hanging around waiting to steal my brain. I did have to act as official interpreter for the civil ceremony with only about 20 minutes to prepare, but I was mostly translating for my family and I managed pretty well (despite the lack of dictionaries). Although I’m still annoyed with myself for forgetting the German word for ‘difficulties’ when translating the groom’s father’s speech into German (such a simple word and I’ve used it a million times…). Luckily the bride was able to help though.

We were both tired last night after getting up so early, so we were in bed by 10:30pm. Jan informs me that he caught a cold yesterday, so he’s still in bed even as I type despite the fact that it’s now 2:30pm. I went in at 1:30 to find out whether he wanted any lunch and he complained of a headache and asked for Erkältungstee (herbal tea for the curing of colds). So I fetched tea, I fetched cheese on toast and earlier I did some washing so that he would have something clean to put on in case he ever does decide to get up. And all that despite the fact that when I was ill he spent the entire week at his flat, leaving me to fend for myself. So much for gender equality…

I’m so not ready for the weekend to be over

Thoughts I’ve had so far this morning:

– Hmm, it’s snowed in the night. Looks like I’m going to get wet feet again.
– Crap, it’s quarter past and I haven’t even had breakfast yet.
– Why does the stupid toaster have to take so long to toast?
– Where’s my purse? I need my tram ticket.

Oh well, at least I slept fairly well last night.
Happy Monday everyone. *Sigh*

Interview time…

I’m currently trying to force myself to eat breakfast while my stomach goes “nooo, don’t want food. I’m too busy twisting myself into nervous knots to eat!” I have to eat though. I know what will happen if I don’t  – I’ll get to my interview and my stomach will suddenly decide that it is hungry after all, then I’ll have to sit through the whole thing with it rumbling. Loudly. Not really the first impression that I want to make! So I’m trying to force myself to eat some toast with jam on. Once that’s gone I’m going to try and force myself to eat a yoghurt. I won’t have time for lunch – I need to leave the house at 12:00, buy credit for my phone, buy a ticket for the journey to Gernsbach, take a tram to the train station. The train to Gernsbach leaves at 12:43 and I arrive at 1:29pm. By the time I’ve got my bearings and walked down to the place it will pretty much be time for the interview, so no time for eating. I suppose I could take some food on the train. Hmm, actually that’s a possibility. I shall think about that. But in the meantime… must… eat… breakfast.

Fortunately the weather has decided to be kind to me today. The current temperature is a quite pleasant 21.7°C. This is good. I just hope it stays that way – I’m paranoid about making sweat marks on my nice blue blouse!
